You are in   ICT in Sri Lanka  >  ICT Infrastructure

Over the past ten years Sri Lanka has set up over 800,000 telephone lines – bringing communication infrastructure to a large number of people.

Four mobile phone companies have also been established in the country. While the early 1990s were characterized by long waiting periods for telephones, today a phone connection can be obtained within three days. Internet penetration is also increasing in the country with many ISPs in operation.

The Government too is playing a proactive role in ICT development with the formulation of a National Telecommunication Policy and an ICT Road Map. Copyright Laws to prevent software piracy are also being prepared. In order to promote investment the Government has offered a number of tax incentives to ICT companies.
